Summer Mold Outbreak in La Mirada Home Triggered by Poor Ventilation?
6/25/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in mold remediation services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team has the training, equipment, and experience to restore mold damage to pre-damage conditions in La Mirada. Mold outbreaks can occur during the summer in Southern California for several reasons:
- Indoor Moisture: Leaks in plumbing, roofs, or windows can introduce moisture into buildings, creating ideal conditions for mold growth, especially in poorly ventilated areas like bathrooms.
- Air Conditioning: While air conditioning can reduce indoor humidity levels, improper maintenance or excessive use can lead to moisture buildup in air ducts or around the unit itself, creating environments conducive to mold growth.
- Poor Ventilation: Inadequate ventilation in buildings can trap moisture indoors, promoting mold growth.
- Water Damage: Flooding or water intrusion can saturate building materials like drywall, carpets, and insulation, providing ample moisture for mold growth if not properly dried and remediated.
- Organic Materials: Mold thrives on organic materials such as wood, paper, and fabric. In environments where these materials are present and moisture is available, mold can proliferate rapidly.
- Outdoor Mold Spores: During the summer months, these spores can be carried indoors on clothing, shoes, and through open windows and doors, leading to indoor mold growth if conditions are favorable.

Mold Outbreak in La Mirada Caused by Leaking Air Conditioner Unit?
5/21/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in mold damage remediation in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team has been restoring mold damage in La Mirada for many years. Under certain conditions, mold can develop in an air conditioning unit (AC):
Condensation: AC units work by cooling warm air, which causes moisture in the air to condense into water droplets. This water typically collects in a drip pan or drain pan underneath the evaporator coil. If the drip pan or drain line becomes clogged or blocked, water can accumulate inside the AC unit instead of draining properly. This stagnant water creates a humid environment ideal for mold growth.
Dust and Debris Accumulation: Dust, dirt, and other organic debris can accumulate inside the AC unit over time. When combined with moisture from condensation, these particles provide nutrients for mold spores to thrive. Mold can grow on the surfaces of the evaporator coil, fan blades, ductwork, and other components within the AC unit, especially in areas where dust and moisture are present.
Poor Maintenance: Neglecting regular maintenance of the AC unit, such as failing to replace air filters, clean coils, or inspect for leaks, can exacerbate conditions conducive to mold growth. A dirty or malfunctioning AC unit is more likely to accumulate moisture and organic debris, providing an ideal environment for mold to flourish.

How Can I Tell If I Have a Mold Outbreak Hiding in My Home in La Palma?
4/16/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in mold remediation services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is trained and certified by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification to remediate mold damage in homes and commercial businesses. Mold is often a symptom of water damage, manifesting in the form of a hidden water leak, or other excess moisture issue.
Symptoms of a hidden mold outbreak in a home can manifest in various ways. For instance, individuals may experience persistent respiratory problems such as coughing, wheezing, or difficulty breathing, particularly in enclosed spaces or specific areas of the house. Allergic reactions like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and skin irritation may occur, especially when spending time in the affected areas.
Visually, signs of mold may not always be evident as it tends to thrive in damp, dark, and secluded spaces like behind walls, under flooring, or within air ducts. Strong, musty or earthy odors might hint at hidden moisture and microbial growth. Additionally, discoloration or staining on surfaces such as walls, ceilings, or carpets could indicate the presence of mold.
Given the potential for structural damage associated with mold, it's crucial to address any suspicions promptly. Professional mold inspection and remediation services can locate the source of hidden mold colonies, and repair any excess moisture or water leaks that may be causing the mold to thrive.

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:
- Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
- Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
- Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
- Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
- Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
- Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
- If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Water Damage While Homeowners Were Out of Town
5/16/2018 (Permalink)
What can happen if water damage goes untreated?... Mold growth...
Homeowners were out of town when this water damage occurred. Unfortunately, due to nobody being in the home, the water damage went untreated for six days. During this time, water saturated the walls, flooring, and cabinets throughout the downstairs area of the home. SERVPRO of Buena Park was called to assess the water damage. Upon arrival, SERVPRO of Buena Park crew noticed there was about 2-3 inches of standing water and microbial growth on the walls. The first thing the crew did was moving contents and furniture to an unaffected area of the home in attempts to salvage them. The next step was to extract the water using a truck mount extractor. Thirdly, the homeowners' items were packed and moved into another area of the home so that cabinets and furniture could be removed. Fourth step was the removal of cabinets, drywall, and floors as they were heavily affected by the water damage. (Notice the microbial growth on the walls) The final step was mold remediation. With the help of a hygienist, the home mold spores in the home were reduced to where it is now safe to live in the home. Just a friendly reminder to have a family member, friend and or neighbor keep an eye on your home when you are out of town just in case this happens in your home!
Water Damage Causes Extensive Mold Growth
8/4/2017 (Permalink)
When water damage is not reported when it needs to be reported, mold is definitely going to grow in the affected areas as it did in the pictures above. The customer left for vacation and when he came back, most of the downstairs area was affected and had mold growth. Please take a second to notice the height that mold reached in just a few days that the water damage was not treated. SERVPRO of Buena Park will, at this point, set up a plan to mitigate the mold.
Unfortunately, the homeowner was not aware of the water damage happening in his home. When going away for an extended period of time, we suggest the homeowner have someone they trust to check on the home to prevent a mold disaster such as this one.
