Outdoor Holiday Light Safety: Avoiding Fire Hazards Outside in La Palma?
12/3/2024 (Permalink)
We are fire damage restoration leaders in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team wishes everyone in La Palma Happy Holidays! While outdoor holiday lights make your home festive, they can also pose a fire risk if not used properly. To prevent electrical fires or other hazards, choose lights specifically designed for outdoor use. Indoor lights may be unable to handle exposure to weather conditions like rain, snow, or extreme cold.
As a homeowner, you play a crucial role in preventing fire hazards when using outdoor lights. Before installing your lights, take the time to check all cords and strands for damage. Frayed wires or broken bulbs can increase the risk of fire. Use weatherproof extension cords and avoid connecting too many strands of lights, as this can overload the circuit.
When hanging lights, secure them properly to avoid wind damage. Ensure they are kept away from flammable materials like dry leaves, branches, or holiday decorations that could catch fire. Never use staples or nails to attach lights, as this can damage the cords and create an electrical hazard. Instead, use clips or hooks designed for hanging lights.
Finally, always turn off your outdoor lights when you go to bed or leave the house. These precautions will help keep your outdoor display festive and safe throughout the holiday season.

Power Outage Safety: Tips for Staying Safe During a Blackout in Buena Park?
11/25/2024 (Permalink)
We restore storm damage 24/7 in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park wants everyone to be prepared for power outages. Power outages are often unexpected, but staying safe during one is crucial. Here are a few tips to ensure you and your family remain secure until the power is restored.
First, avoid using candles for light to prevent fire hazards. Instead, rely on flashlights or battery-operated lanterns. Stock up on batteries, bottled water, and non-perishable food in your emergency kit.
When the electricity returns, unplug electronics and appliances to protect them from power surges. If the outage lasts an extended period, keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed to preserve the food inside.
If you’re using a generator, ensure its outdoors and far from windows or doors to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Never use generators, grills, or camp stoves indoors.
Stay informed by listening to a battery-powered radio for updates on the outage and weather conditions. If extreme weather conditions are the cause, consider staying indoors and using blankets or extra layers to stay warm.
Following these safety measures can help you navigate a power outage safely until everything returns to normal.

How Cast Iron Pipe Puffing Can Lead to Water Damage in Your Home in Buena Park?
11/12/2024 (Permalink)
We restore water damage 24/7 in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is a trusted leader in water damage restoration services. Cast iron pipes are still found in older homes and although they are known for their durability, over time, they can develop a condition called "puffing." Puffing occurs when internal corrosion causes sections of the pipe to bulge outward. This swelling is a warning sign that the pipe is weakening and could soon fail. As the pipe corrodes from the inside, rust and gases build up, leading to increased pressure that causes the pipe to puff.
If left unchecked, puffing can lead to cracks, leaks, or even a complete pipe failure, resulting in significant water damage to your home. The weakened sections of the pipe are prone to leaking, allowing water to seep into walls, floors, and ceilings. This can lead to mold growth, structural damage, and costly repairs.
Homeowners with older cast iron plumbing should be aware of the signs of puffing and take action before water damage occurs. Regular inspections by a professional can identify puffing early and prevent leaks from forming. If puffing is detected, it’s essential to address the issue immediately to avoid further damage. Replacing or relining cast iron pipes can protect your home from the risks of water damage and ensure your plumbing system remains functional for years to come.

Preventing Water Intrusion with Proper Drainage Around Your Home in La Mirada?
11/5/2024 (Permalink)
We are storm damage restoration leaders in Orange County.
La Mirada residents and businesses trust our local Buena Park team to restore storm damage quickly and efficiently. Proper drainage is critical to preventing water intrusion issues during heavy rains. If your yard slopes toward your home, rainwater can pool near your foundation, increasing the risk of flooding or structural damage. Improving drainage and ensuring water flows away from your home can prevent costly water damage.
Start by checking the grading around your home. Ideally, the ground should slope away from the structure at about six inches for every ten feet. If the slope directs water toward your home, consider regrading the area or adding fill dirt to create a slope that directs water away from the foundation.
Installing French drains or other drainage systems can help redirect water away from vulnerable areas. Additionally, maintain landscaping features, such as flower beds or retaining walls, so they do not trap water near your foundation.
Proper drainage prevents pooling water and reduces the risk of water intrusion during storms, helping to protect your home from long-term damage.

Severe Thunderstorms: The Hidden Risks to Your Home in Buena Park?
10/29/2024 (Permalink)
We restore storm damage 24/7 in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is highly trained and certified to restore storm damage. Severe thunderstorms can wreak havoc on homes, combining high winds, heavy rain, lightning, and even hail to create a perfect storm of residential property damage.
Wind gusts can reach damaging speeds, tearing off shingles, uprooting trees, and damaging fences and outbuildings. Lightning strikes can spark fires, while hailstones leave dents in siding and break windows.
The most significant damage from severe thunderstorms often comes from water intrusion. The heavy rain brought by these storms can overwhelm gutters and cause roof leaks. Allowing water to enter the home can lead to mold growth, rotted wood, and damaged insulation.
Additionally, power outages caused by the storm can make it difficult to prevent further water damage if sump pumps fail. Homeowners can prepare for severe thunderstorms by ensuring that roofs, windows, and doors are in good condition, clearing gutters of debris, and securing outdoor items that could become projectiles.
Installing surge protectors and lightning rods can help protect electrical systems from power surges. These precautions can reduce the damage caused by severe thunderstorms and help homeowners avoid expensive repairs.

Why Heavy Rains Can Cause Devastating Damage in Minutes in La Palma?
10/22/2024 (Permalink)
We are storm damage restoration leaders in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is n call 24 hours a day to respond to storm damage emergencies in La Palma. Heavy rains can cause an alarming amount of damage in a very short period of time, often leaving homeowners with unexpected and costly repairs. The sheer volume of water that falls during a heavy downpour can overwhelm even the most well-prepared drainage systems, leading to flooding that can quickly invade homes.
The intensity of heavy rains can cause rapid water accumulation, especially in low-lying areas or places with poor drainage. This sudden influx of water can penetrate basements, seep through foundations, and find its way into any cracks or gaps in the home's structure. In addition to the immediate water damage, heavy rains can erode soil around the home, destabilizing foundations and leading to long-term structural issues.
Another factor contributing to the severity of damage is the saturation of the ground. When the soil becomes overly saturated, it loses its ability to absorb additional water, leading to runoff that can flood streets, yards, and homes. This is particularly problematic in areas with impermeable surfaces like concrete, which exacerbate the problem by preventing water from naturally seeping into the ground.
To significantly reduce the risk of catastrophic water damage, homeowners should proactively prepare in advance, ensure proper drainage, and address any vulnerabilities in their home's structure.

Cracked Pipes from Earthquakes in Buena Park: A Hidden Threat?
10/15/2024 (Permalink)
We restore water damage 24/7 in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is a leader in water damage restoration services. Earthquakes can cause significant damage to residential plumbing systems, even if the shaking seems minor. One of the most common issues is cracked pvc pipes, resulting from the stress and pressure exerted on the plumbing during an earthquake. These cracks may not be immediately visible but if not addressed promptly, they can lead to severe water damage over time.
A cracked pipe caused by an earthquake can leak slowly, allowing water to seep into walls, floors, and foundations. This hidden water damage can weaken the structural integrity of your home, lead to mold growth, and cause other costly repairs. In some cases, the pressure from the shaking can even cause a pipe to burst, resulting in sudden and extensive flooding.
Homeowners in earthquake-prone areas should be vigilant about checking their plumbing system after any seismic activity. Look for signs of leaks, such as water stains, damp spots, or a sudden drop in water pressure. If you suspect a pipe may have been damaged, it's essential to contact a professional plumber immediately. They can inspect your system, identify any cracks, and perform the necessary repairs to prevent further damage.

Why Every Home in Buena Park Should Have a Fire Extinguisher?
9/30/2024 (Permalink)
We are trained and certified to restore fire damage in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team restores fire damage in Buena Park every year. During Residential Fire Awareness Month, it's essential to focus on the tools that can help you manage a fire before it spreads—like having a fire extinguisher in your home. Fire extinguishers are critical for controlling small fires or containing them until the fire department arrives.
There are different types of fire extinguishers designed for various kinds of fires. For home use, a multi-purpose fire extinguisher labeled ABC is the best choice, as it can be used on most fires, including those involving paper, wood, cloth, electrical equipment, and flammable liquids.
Keep at least one fire extinguisher in key areas of your home, such as the kitchen, garage, and nearby exits. This preparation can provide a sense of security and readiness in the event of a fire.
However, simply having a fire extinguisher isn't enough—you must know how to use it. The PASS method is a simple guide: Pull the pin, Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep from side to side. Please ensure everyone in your household knows where the fire extinguishers are located and how to use them properly.
This October, check that your fire extinguishers are in working order, replace expired ones, and ensure your family is prepared to use them in an emergency.

How to Safeguard Your La Mirada Home from Faulty Appliances Fire Hazards?
9/24/2024 (Permalink)
We have the training, equipment, and certification to restore fire damage in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is a leader in fire damage restoration services in La Mirada. Faulty household appliances are a common source of residential fires, but taking proactive measures can significantly reduce this risk.
Begin with regular maintenance and inspections of your appliances. Many fires are caused by appliances that have not been maintained or developed faults over time. Clean and service your appliances according to the manufacturer's recommendations to keep them in good working order.
Pay special attention to appliances that generate heat, such as ovens, dryers, and toasters. Ensure that dryer lint traps are cleaned after every use, as accumulated lint is highly flammable. Ovens and stoves should be kept clean and free of grease build-up, which can easily ignite.
Replace or repair any appliance that shows signs of malfunction, such as unusual noises, excessive heat, or electrical shorts. Avoid using damaged appliances, as they can pose significant fire hazards. It's also important to use appliances as intended and follow all safety instructions, which will keep you informed and your home secure.
Unplug small appliances when not in use to prevent overheating and potential fire risks. Additionally, consider installing an appliance safety checklist in your home to remind all household members of these safety practices.

Portable Air Conditioner Starts Fire in Buena Park Home?
9/17/2024 (Permalink)
We are fire damage restoration leaders in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team responds to fire damage emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Portable air conditioning units offer a convenient way to cool your home but can also pose fire risks. Here’s how:
Electrical Overload
Portable air conditioners draw significant power, and plugging them into overloaded circuits or using inappropriate extension cords can lead to overheating and fire. Plug the unit directly into a wall outlet, avoiding the use of power strips or extension cords.
Faulty Wiring
With time and usage, portable air conditioner wiring can become damaged or worn. Frayed cords, loose connections, or exposed wires can ignite surrounding materials. Regularly inspect the unit's power cord and internal wiring for any signs of wear and replace any faulty components immediately.
Blocked Vents
Portable air conditioners need proper ventilation to operate efficiently. Blocked or obstructed vents can cause the unit to overheat, posing a fire risk. The unit should be placed in a well-ventilated area with unobstructed airflow, and the exhaust hose is correctly installed.
Poor Maintenance
Accumulated dust and debris can clog an air conditioning unit's filters and internal components, causing it to overheat. Regular cleaning and maintenance, including filter replacement and internal component checks, are crucial to keeping the unit safe and efficient.
Proper Placement
Locate the air conditioner on a stable, flat surface away from flammable materials.

Common Examples of Wind Damage on an Asphalt Roof in Buena Park?
9/10/2024 (Permalink)
We restore wind damage 24/7 in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is trained and certified to restore wind damage. Powerful winds can damage an asphalt roof, causing issues that compromise its integrity. Recognizing these signs early can help prevent further deterioration.
Missing Shingles: High winds can lift and rip off asphalt shingles, leaving exposed patches on the roof. This reduces the roof's protective barrier and makes it more susceptible to water infiltration and subsequent damage.
Curling and Lifting Shingles: Wind gusts can cause shingles to curl at the edges or lift entirely. Curling occurs when the adhesive bond between shingles weakens while lifting indicates a more severe disruption. Both issues can lead to leaks and reduced roof efficiency.
Granule Loss: Asphalt shingles are coated with granules that protect against UV rays and physical damage. Wind can strip these granules away, leaving the shingles vulnerable to sunlight and wear. Accumulated granules in gutters and downspouts are a telltale sign of this damage.
Torn or Cracked Shingles: Wind can create stress points that result in tears or cracks in the shingles. These fractures can grow over time, allowing water to penetrate the roof's underlying layers and cause significant damage.
Damaged Flashing: Strong winds can loosen or bend the metal flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights. Compromised flashing leads to gaps and openings where water can enter, leading to leaks and interior damage.

Slow Leaking Toilet Causes Major Water Damage in La Mirada Business?
9/3/2024 (Permalink)
Orange County businesses rely on us to respond to water damage emergencies 24/7.
Our local Buena Park team is a leader is water damage restoration services in La Mirada. A slow-leaking toilet in a commercial business can be a silent but destructive problem, leading to significant water damage if the leak remains undetected. The initial signs are often subtle, such as a minor increase in the water bill or a slightly damp floor around the toilet base. However, over time, this minor leak can escalate into a severe issue, causing extensive damage to flooring, subflooring, and even the building's structural integrity.
Water from a slow leak can seep into the floor materials, causing them to weaken and rot. This is particularly problematic in commercial settings where foot traffic is high, and structural integrity is crucial. As the water penetrates deeper, it can reach other areas, such as walls and adjacent rooms, leading to mold growth. Once mold begins to colonize, it can spread rapidly to other parts of the building, damaging walls, carpeting, and furnishings, resulting in costly repairs.
Also, moisture can attract pests, like termites, which are attracted to damp environments and can further compromise the building's structure. Businesses might also face operational disruptions and potential revenue loss during the repair process. Early detection and repair of a slow-leaking toilet can prevent significant water damage, ensuring the business remains safe, healthy, and operational.

Family Dog Causes Electrical Fire in Buena Park Home?
8/20/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in fire damage restoration in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team responds to fire damage emergencies 365 days a year , 24 hours a day. The National Fire Protection Association cites electrical fires as one of the leading causes of home fires in the United States. While pets bring joy to our homes, their curiosity can sometimes lead to unforeseen dangers, such as chewing on electrical wires. This behavior not only poses a risk to the pet but also increases the likelihood of a house fire. Electrical wires chewed by pets can expose live wires, leading to short circuits or electrical arcing, both of which can ignite nearby materials.
To minimize this risk, pet owners should consider pet-proofing their homes by concealing or protecting electrical wires with cord covers or conduit. Additionally, providing pets with appropriate chew toys and keeping them supervised in areas with electrical appliances can help prevent accidents. Regularly inspecting wires for signs of damage or wear and promptly addressing any issues can also mitigate the risk of fire caused by pet-related electrical incidents.
By taking these preventive measures, pet owners can ensure a safer environment for both their pets and their homes, reducing the likelihood of a devastating fire.

Our local Buena Park team is trained and certified to restore fire damage in Buena Park. After a wildfire has passed, thoroughly inspecting your property is crucial to ensure safety and begin recovery. Here are some tips for assessing the damage:
Before returning home, wait for official notification from authorities. Wildfire-affected areas can remain hazardous due to hotspots, unstable structures, and downed power lines. Wear protective clothing, including long sleeves, pants, gloves, and sturdy shoes, to guard against ash, debris, and potential toxins.

Tips for Preventing Oven Fires in La Mirada?
7/23/2024 (Permalink)
We respond to fire damage emergencies 24/7 in Orange County.
Oven fires cause many home fires in the United States. Our local Buena Park team responds to fire damage emergencies every year in La Mirada. One of the primary causes of oven fires is food debris and grease buildup. Spills and splatters from cooking can accumulate over time and ignite when the oven is in use. Regularly cleaning the oven, including the interior walls, racks, and door, can help prevent this risk.
Using the oven’s self-cleaning feature can also reduce fire hazards. However, it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully, as the high temperatures involved can pose a risk if not used correctly. Always remove any large food debris before initiating a self-cleaning cycle.
Avoiding the use of aluminum foil on the oven’s bottom is another crucial safety measure. While some people use foil to catch spills, it can restrict airflow and cause overheating, leading to a potential fire. Instead, use oven-safe mats or liners specifically designed for this purpose.
Regularly inspecting the oven’s heating elements and wiring for signs of wear or damage is also essential. Faulty components can spark and start a fire. Professional maintenance and prompt repairs can ensure the oven operates safely. By following these tips, homeowners can minimize the risk of oven-related fires and enjoy safe cooking experiences.

Our local Buena Park team is Here to Help ® when your home or business in La Mirada is damaged by wind. Here are some examples of the types of windstorms that can occur in Orange County:
The Santa Ana winds: A formidable force in La Mirada, are a significant contributor to wind damage. Leaking HVAC System Causes Water Damage in Buena Park Business?
7/1/2024 (Permalink)
We respond to commercial water damage emergencies 24/7 in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team witnesses firsthand the water damage heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems can do to a commercial property or business. Problems with HVAC systems left unaddressed can lead to water leaks, causing damage to a building’s ceilings, walls, and other structural elements.
Water is invasive and it will seep into porous surfaces and underneath anything in its path. Water damage from a leaking HVAC system in a commercial setting can occur rapidly and with little warning. Initially, the water may cause subtle issues like stains or minor drips, but continuous exposure can lead to more severe consequences over time. Water can seep into walls, ceilings, and floors within hours to days, compromising structural integrity and fostering mold growth.
Prolonged exposure can also damage electrical systems and equipment, leading to costly repairs and potential operational disruptions. Businesses may face significant downtime if the damage spreads to critical areas. Regular maintenance of HVAC systems is crucial to detect and address leaks early, preventing extensive water damage and associated costs.

Summer Mold Outbreak in La Mirada Home Triggered by Poor Ventilation?
6/25/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in mold remediation services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team has the training, equipment, and experience to restore mold damage to pre-damage conditions in La Mirada. Mold outbreaks can occur during the summer in Southern California for several reasons:
- Indoor Moisture: Leaks in plumbing, roofs, or windows can introduce moisture into buildings, creating ideal conditions for mold growth, especially in poorly ventilated areas like bathrooms.
- Air Conditioning: While air conditioning can reduce indoor humidity levels, improper maintenance or excessive use can lead to moisture buildup in air ducts or around the unit itself, creating environments conducive to mold growth.
- Poor Ventilation: Inadequate ventilation in buildings can trap moisture indoors, promoting mold growth.
- Water Damage: Flooding or water intrusion can saturate building materials like drywall, carpets, and insulation, providing ample moisture for mold growth if not properly dried and remediated.
- Organic Materials: Mold thrives on organic materials such as wood, paper, and fabric. In environments where these materials are present and moisture is available, mold can proliferate rapidly.
- Outdoor Mold Spores: During the summer months, these spores can be carried indoors on clothing, shoes, and through open windows and doors, leading to indoor mold growth if conditions are favorable.

Is My High Water Bill an Indicator of a Water Leak in My La Palma Home?
6/11/2024 (Permalink)
We restore water damage 24 hours a day in Orange County.
Does your water bill seem higher than usual? According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), minor water leaks account for more than one trillion gallons of water wasted in United States homes each year. Many water leaks are not visible, and even minor water leaks can cause significant damage to a home over time. SERVPRO of Buena Park uses advanced technology and techniques to locate and identify hidden water leaks in homes and businesses in La Palma.
The EPA offers this leak detection information:
- A good method to check for leaks is to examine your winter water use. A family of four likely has a serious leak problem if winter water use exceeds 12,000 gallons per month.
- Check your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter does not read exactly the same, you probably have a leak.
- To check for a toilet bowl leak, place a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. If the color shows up in the bowl within ten minutes without flushing, you have a leak.

Leaking Dishwasher Ravages Buena Park Home?
6/4/2024 (Permalink)
We respond to water damage emergencies 24 hours a day in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team responds to more water damage emergencies than any other form of property damage. Imagine coming home after a long day only to find your kitchen floor flooded and water seeping into adjacent rooms. This nightmare scenario is often the result of a leaking dishwasher, a seemingly innocent appliance that can wreak havoc when malfunctioning.
Dishwasher leaks can result from various sources, such as a faulty door seal, a cracked hose, or a clogged drain. Regardless of the cause, the damage can be severe. Prolonged exposure to moisture can damage flooring, warp cabinetry, and promote mold growth. Additionally, if the leaking is unnoticed for an extended period, the structural integrity may be compromised, leading to costly and time-consuming repairs.
Prevention is critical to minimizing the chances of a dishwasher disaster. Regularly inspect your dishwasher for signs of wear and tear, such as rust or water stains. Ensure that all connections are secure and replace worn components promptly. Also, consider installing a water leak detector near the appliance to provide early warning of potential leaks.
By staying vigilant and addressing issues promptly, you may be able to mitigate the risk of water damage caused by a leaking dishwasher, safeguarding your home and preserving your peace of mind.

Buena Park Community Takes Proactive Measures to Mitigate Water Damage Risk from Heavy Rain?
5/28/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in storm damage restoration services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team has been busy responding to water damage emergencies caused by heavy rain. While Southern California is known for its sunny weather, heavy rainstorms can occasionally strike, posing risks to homes and businesses in the region. Understanding the potential damage that heavy rain can cause and taking proactive preparation steps can help mitigate these risks.
Heavy rain can lead to flooding for homeowners, particularly in areas with poor drainage or inadequate flood protection measures. To minimize the risk of water damage, it is essential to inspect and maintain gutters, downspouts, and drainage systems regularly.
Additionally, sealing cracks and gaps in the foundation and walls can help keep water out of basements and crawl spaces. Installing a sump pump with a backup power source can provide added protection against flooding during heavy rainstorms.
Business owners should also take steps to protect their properties from heavy rain. Ensuring roofs are in good condition and leak-free can prevent water damage to interiors. Installing flood barriers or sandbags around vulnerable areas can help divert water from buildings and minimize the risk of flooding.
Preparing for heavy rainstorms is essential for homeowners and businesses. Individuals can help protect their properties and reduce the potential impact of severe weather events by implementing preventive measures and being proactive.

Mold Outbreak in La Mirada Caused by Leaking Air Conditioner Unit?
5/21/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in mold damage remediation in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team has been restoring mold damage in La Mirada for many years. Under certain conditions, mold can develop in an air conditioning unit (AC):
Condensation: AC units work by cooling warm air, which causes moisture in the air to condense into water droplets. This water typically collects in a drip pan or drain pan underneath the evaporator coil. If the drip pan or drain line becomes clogged or blocked, water can accumulate inside the AC unit instead of draining properly. This stagnant water creates a humid environment ideal for mold growth.
Dust and Debris Accumulation: Dust, dirt, and other organic debris can accumulate inside the AC unit over time. When combined with moisture from condensation, these particles provide nutrients for mold spores to thrive. Mold can grow on the surfaces of the evaporator coil, fan blades, ductwork, and other components within the AC unit, especially in areas where dust and moisture are present.
Poor Maintenance: Neglecting regular maintenance of the AC unit, such as failing to replace air filters, clean coils, or inspect for leaks, can exacerbate conditions conducive to mold growth. A dirty or malfunctioning AC unit is more likely to accumulate moisture and organic debris, providing an ideal environment for mold to flourish.

Signs of Hidden Broken Pipe Water Damage in La Palma?
5/14/2024 (Permalink)
We restore water damage 24 hours a day in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is a leader in water damage restoration services in La Palma. Hidden water damage from broken pipes can manifest in various ways, often with subtle signs that may go unnoticed until the damage becomes severe.
One indication is the presence of musty or moldy odors, particularly in areas with poor ventilation or high humidity, which suggest the presence of hidden moisture. Discoloration or water stains on walls, ceilings, or floors can also indicate water leakage from concealed pipes. These stains may appear as yellow or brown spots, and the affected surfaces may feel damp or soft.
Peeling or bubbling paint or wallpaper can be another sign of hidden water damage, as moisture from leaking pipes can weaken the adhesive and deteriorate the surface. Warped or buckling floorboards, especially in areas near plumbing fixtures, may indicate water seepage from broken pipes beneath the flooring.
Unexplained increases in water bills or the sound of running water when no fixtures are used could also suggest a hidden water leak. Finally, a decrease in water pressure or rust or corrosion on visible pipes may indicate a problem with the plumbing system that requires further investigation.

Can a High Water Bill Be a Symptom of Storm Damage in Buena Park?
5/7/2024 (Permalink)
We restore storm damage 24 hours a day in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is trained and certified to restore storm damage in Buena Park. A high water bill can be a symptom of storm damage, particularly if leaks or plumbing system damage due to the storm. Here's how storm damage can lead to a high water bill:
Burst Pipes: Severe storms, strong winds, or hail can cause pipes to crack or burst. Water can leak out continuously when pipes burst until the issue is resolved. This ongoing leakage can significantly increase water usage, leading to a higher-than-usual water bill.
Roof Damage: Storms can damage roofs, leading to leaks that allow rainwater to enter the home. These leaks can saturate insulation, ceilings, and walls and even penetrate the plumbing system if these leaks go undetected. As a result, water can seep into pipes and cause increased water usage, reflected in a higher water bill.
Foundation Damage: Heavy storm rainfall can saturate the soil around a home's foundation, leading to cracks or shifts. If the foundation is compromised, it can stress the plumbing system, causing pipes to crack or break. This can result in water leakage and higher water usage, leading to a spike in water bills.

Can Lightning Strike Inside My Home in Buena Park?
4/23/2024 (Permalink)
We restore storm damage 24 hours a day in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is a leader in storm damage restoration services. This year we have had many storms, including heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning. Although a relatively rare occurrence, lightning can strike inside a home. Lightning can enter a home through conductive materials such as electrical wiring, plumbing, or metal structures. To stay safe during a thunderstorm, follow these guidelines:
Stay indoors: Avoid going outside during a thunderstorm. If you're already outside, seek shelter immediately.
Seek shelter in a sturdy building: Stay inside a well-constructed building with wiring and plumbing that acts as a grounding system. Avoid small sheds, isolated structures, or buildings with inadequate lightning protection.
Stay away from windows and doors: Lightning can enter through them, so stay away from them during a storm. Close blinds or curtains to minimize the risk of shattering glass.
Avoid using electrical appliances: Unplug electronic devices and avoid using landline phones or electrical appliances during a thunderstorm. Lightning can travel through electrical wiring and may cause electrocution.
Stay off water and plumbing: Avoid using sinks, showers, or bathtubs, as lightning can travel through plumbing systems. Also, avoid contact with water during a thunderstorm, as water is a good conductor of electricity.

How Can I Tell If I Have a Mold Outbreak Hiding in My Home in La Palma?
4/16/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in mold remediation services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is trained and certified by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification to remediate mold damage in homes and commercial businesses. Mold is often a symptom of water damage, manifesting in the form of a hidden water leak, or other excess moisture issue.
Symptoms of a hidden mold outbreak in a home can manifest in various ways. For instance, individuals may experience persistent respiratory problems such as coughing, wheezing, or difficulty breathing, particularly in enclosed spaces or specific areas of the house. Allergic reactions like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and skin irritation may occur, especially when spending time in the affected areas.
Visually, signs of mold may not always be evident as it tends to thrive in damp, dark, and secluded spaces like behind walls, under flooring, or within air ducts. Strong, musty or earthy odors might hint at hidden moisture and microbial growth. Additionally, discoloration or staining on surfaces such as walls, ceilings, or carpets could indicate the presence of mold.
Given the potential for structural damage associated with mold, it's crucial to address any suspicions promptly. Professional mold inspection and remediation services can locate the source of hidden mold colonies, and repair any excess moisture or water leaks that may be causing the mold to thrive.

Buena Park Home Damaged During Spring Rainstorm?
4/2/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in storm damage restoration services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team responds to storm damage emergencies 24 hours a day. When it rains, homes can sustain property damage. Here are some examples of how rain can damage properties:
Water Damage
One of the most common forms of damage during rainstorms is water infiltration into buildings. This can lead to damage to walls, ceilings, floors, and personal belongings. Water damage may result from leaks in the roof, windows, doors, or foundation, as well as from overflowing gutters or inadequate drainage around the property.
Flooding
Heavy rainfall can overwhelm stormwater drainage systems, leading to flooding in low-lying areas and basements. Floodwaters can cause extensive damage to structures, electrical systems, and personal property. In severe cases, flooding can render buildings uninhabitable and pose health and safety risks to occupants.
Roof Damage
Rainstorms with strong winds or hail can cause damage to roofs, including missing or damaged shingles, torn, or lifted roofing materials, and punctures from hailstones. Roof damage can lead to leaks, water infiltration into the building's interior, and potential structural issues if left unaddressed.

Faulty Electrical Cord Starts Fire in La Mirada Home?
3/26/2024 (Permalink)
We restore fire damage 24 hours a day in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team responds to fire damage emergencies every year in La Mirada. Electrical fires remain one of the top causes of home fires in the United States, and in many cases, these fires could have been prevented by routine inspections. Here are some tips from The National Fire Protection Association to prevent electrical fires in your home:
- Check electrical cords to make sure the wires are not damaged, cracked, or loose. If the cords need to be repaired, take the item to a professional repair shop, hire an electrician, or replace it with a new item.
- Make sure cords are not running across doorways or under carpets. If they are, have a qualified electrician install more outlets.
- Keep children away from electric cords and outlets. Cords placed in the mouth can cause a burn and objects placed in a receptacle can cause a shock, burns, or electrocution.
- Make sure that all receptacle outlets and switches have faceplates.
- Never put more than one plug in each receptacle. An outlet may have one or more receptacles - one to receive each plug.

La Palma Home Floods in the Middle of the Night Due to Broken Pipe?
3/19/2024 (Permalink)
Our technicians are trained and certified to restore water damage in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team responds to water damage emergencies 24 hours a day in La Palma. A broken water pipe in a home can cause significant damage overnight due to the rapid and uncontrolled water flow. The extent of damage depends on several factors, including the size of the pipe, the water pressure, and the location of the break. Here's a brief overview of the potential consequences:
Flooding: A broken pipe can quickly release a large volume of water into your home. This can lead to extensive flooding, damaging floors, walls, ceilings, and personal belongings.
Structural Damage: If the water remains standing, it can cause structural damage. Wooden beams, drywall, and insulation can all be compromised.
Mold Growth: Moisture from the water leak creates an ideal environment for mold growth. Mold can develop within 24-48 hours, causing health hazards and requiring costly remediation.
Electrical Issues: Water can damage electrical systems and pose electrocution risks. It may lead to short circuits, power outages, and fire hazards.
Possessions Ruined: Water can ruin furniture, electronics, carpets, and personal items, resulting in costly replacements.
Elevated Repair Costs: The longer the water damage goes unnoticed, the more extensive and expensive the repairs become.

Graffiti Taggers Deface La Palma Business Overnight?
3/5/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in commercial property damage restoration services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is trained and certified to remove graffiti from commercial properties in La Palma. Removing graffiti from a commercial building as quickly as possible is essential for a number of reasons as follows:
Property Image and Perception: Graffiti can create a negative impression of a commercial property. It can make the business look abandoned, neglected, or unsafe, which can deter potential customers, tenants, or investors. A well-maintained appearance is crucial for attracting and retaining business.
Community Perception: Graffiti contributes to a perception of urban decay and can harm the overall image of the surrounding community. Prompt removal sends a message that the community cares about its appearance and safety, potentially deterring further vandalism.
Property Value: Graffiti can lead to a decrease in property values. Commercial property owners may experience a drop in real estate values and rental income if graffiti is left unchecked, making it a financial imperative to address the issue promptly.
Safety and Security: Graffiti can attract criminal activity and vandalism. Quick removal denies vandals a sense of accomplishment and discourages them from returning to deface the property again. It also helps maintain a safer environment for employees and customers.
Long-Term Damage Prevention: Graffiti can penetrate and damage building surfaces over time, making removal more challenging and costly. Immediate action minimizes the risk of permanent damage and the need for extensive repairs.

Powerful Winds Damage Properties in La Palma?
2/6/2024 (Permalink)
We restore storm damage 24 hours a day in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team has been restoring storm damage in La Palma for many years. Each year the Santa Ana winds blow through Southern California, causing significant property damage. These strong, dry, and hot winds originate from the Great Basin and flow towards the coast. Here's how Santa Ana winds can cause damage to homes:
Fire Hazard: The Santa Ana winds are known for their low humidity levels and high speeds. When they blow through the region, they can quickly dry out vegetation, turning it into tinder. Any small spark or ignition source can lead to fast-spreading wildfires, threatening homes in nearby areas.
Downed Trees and Power Lines: The strong winds can uproot trees or break branches, which may fall onto homes, causing structural damage and power outages. Falling trees and power lines also pose a safety risk.
Wind-Driven Debris: The high winds can pick up debris, loose objects, and dust, turning them into projectiles. These can damage windows, siding, and roofs of homes in their path.
Roof Damage: Santa Ana winds can exert strong uplift forces on roofs, potentially causing shingle or tile damage or, in extreme cases, lifting portions of the roof off.
Structural Stress: The constant battering of homes by strong winds can stress the structural integrity of buildings, potentially leading to damage or weakening over time.

Can an Earthquake Cause Broken Pipes in Buena Park?
1/23/2024 (Permalink)
We are leaders in water damage restoration services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team responds to more water damage emergencies than any other form of property damage. Ground shifting and earthquakes are significant causes of pipe breaks in Southern California due to the region's seismic activity. When an earthquake occurs, the ground can shift, shake, and experience intense lateral and vertical movements. These movements can exert tremendous stress on underground pipes, causing them to bend, crack, or rupture. Even if the pipes are made of durable materials, the force generated during an earthquake can be sufficient to damage them.
Additionally, the soil composition in Southern California can amplify the impact of ground movements. Loose or sandy soils allow pipes to shift easily, while clay soils can exert pressure on pipes as they expand and contract with changes in moisture content.
To mitigate the risk of pipe breaks caused by earthquakes, some homeowners opt for flexible piping materials, seismic retrofitting, or installing shut-off valves that can automatically turn off the water supply during seismic events. These measures help protect both the plumbing system and the overall structural integrity of homes in earthquake-prone areas like Southern California.

Clogged Rain Gutter Causes Rainwater Intrusion Into La Palma Home?
1/16/2024 (Permalink)
We restore storm damage 24 hours daily in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is a trusted leader in storm damage mitigation and restoration services in La Palma. When rain gutters become clogged with debris, water can back up onto and underneath the roofing materials, and cause water damage.
Cleaning rain gutters routinely is essential to prevent water intrusion and other problems. Clogged gutters can lead to water overflow, causing damage to the roof, siding, and foundation of a house. This excess moisture can also promote the growth of mold and rot. Additionally, clogged gutters are an attractive nesting place for pests like mosquitoes and birds. Routine gutter cleaning helps maintain proper drainage, prevents structural damage, and safeguards your home's integrity. It's a cost-effective way to avoid expensive repairs and ensure the rainwater is channeled away from your property, reducing the risk of water damage issues.

Smoke Residue and Odor Removal Services in Buena Park?
1/3/2024 (Permalink)
We are a top choice for fire damage restoration services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is highly trained and certified to remove smoke residue and smoke odor from homes and businesses. Here are some examples of the equipment we use for this purpose:
Air Scrubber or Filter
Heating, ventilation, air conditioning system (HVAC) air scrubber or a high-efficiency particulate air filter (HEPA) air purifier can capture larger smoke molecules. There will still be some residual odor from smaller molecules or surface residues.
Ozone Generator
An ozone generator is a fast and highly effective smoke odor restoration method. These machines emit ozone, which follows the same paths through the air as smoke and oxidizes any residual traces in the air or on surfaces.
Thermal Fogging
Thermal fogging is an intensive treatment involving fogging machines. After residents evacuate, smoke cleaning professionals fill a structure with petroleum distillates that neutralize odors and ventilate the area.
Hydroxyl Generator
A hydroxyl generator is a slower and gentler alternative to ozone. These machines rely on ultraviolet light to generate hydroxyl radicals that eliminate smoke odors. It will take about three to five days of continuous operation to achieve the same results as a single ozone treatment.
Vapor Modification
Vapor modification is another odor elimination method that relies on aromatic compounds and a blower or fan to neutralize smoke odor.

Winter Storm Causes Property Damage to Buena Park Home?
12/12/2023 (Permalink)
We are leaders in storm damage restoration services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team responds to storm damage emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. While winter storms are generally not as severe as those in colder regions, they can still have an impact on homes and commercial properties. The most common types of winter weather events in Buena Park include:
Rainstorms: Winter is characterized by rainy and sometimes wet conditions. Rainstorms can be frequent during the winter months, particularly from December through March. These storms can bring heavy rainfall, leading to localized flooding and slick road conditions.
Cold Temperatures: While Buena Park has a generally mild climate, temperatures can still drop during the winter months. Frost and freezing temperatures can occur, especially during the coldest nights, but prolonged periods of extreme cold are rare.
Santa Ana Winds: In some cases, winter can bring Santa Ana wind events to the region. These strong, dry winds can increase fire danger and have the potential to cause power outages and other issues.
Rare Snow: In Southern California, snowfall is rare but not impossible in the winter. It's extremely unusual for the area to experience significant snow accumulation, but there have been occasional reports of flurries or light snowfall in the past.
Overall, winter storms are not as severe as those in regions with more extreme winter weather. However, it's still important for residents to be prepared for rainy and potentially wet conditions, especially given the potential for localized flooding and road hazards during heavy rainstorms. Additionally, residents should be aware of the occasional risks associated with Santa Ana winds and take necessary precautions.

Heavy Rain Causes Water Intrusion Issues in La Mirada Home?
12/5/2023 (Permalink)
We restore storm damage 24 hours a day in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is a trusted leader in storm damage restoration services. Heavy rain can cause many kinds of property damage to a house or commercial property in La Mirada. The extent of damage depends on several factors, including the intensity and duration of the rainfall, the condition of the structure, and the local drainage systems. Here are some common types of damage heavy rain can cause to a house:
Leaks: Heavy rain can lead to roof leaks if there are existing vulnerabilities such as damaged shingles, flashing, or worn-out seals.
Water Infiltration: Prolonged heavy rain can saturate roofing materials and cause water to seep into the attic or living spaces.
Siding Damage: Rain can cause water damage, warping, or rotting of siding materials.
Paint Damage: Continuous exposure to heavy rain can deteriorate exterior paint and lead to peeling or bubbling.
Gutter and Downspout Issues: Clogged gutters can overflow during heavy rain, causing water to pool around the foundation.
Erosion: Improperly functioning downspouts can lead to soil erosion and contribute to foundation problems.
Crawlspace Humidity: Increased humidity levels in basements or crawlspaces due to heavy rain can promote mold and mildew growth.
Electrical Problems: Water damage from rain can affect electrical systems, posing a risk of electrical fires or malfunctions.
Soil Erosion: Heavy rain can wash away topsoil, damage landscaping, and create uneven terrain.
Tree Damage: Strong winds accompanying heavy rain can uproot or damage trees, posing a threat to the house.
Flooding: In cases of extreme and prolonged heavy rain, the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas or areas with poor drainage increases, potentially leading to significant damage to the property.

Tree Roots Cause Broken Pipes and Water Damage in Buena Park Home?
11/27/2023 (Permalink)
We are leaders in water damage restoration services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team responds to water damage emergencies throughout the year. Tree roots can compromise plumbing pipes and underground sewer and water lines. Here are some of the ways tree roots can cause damage to plumbing pipes:
Infiltration: Tree roots seek out sources of water and nutrients, and they are naturally drawn to the moisture inside sewer and water pipes. Even small cracks or joints in pipes can release tiny amounts of moisture, attracting roots. Over time, the roots can infiltrate these openings and grow into the interior of the pipe.
Blockages: As tree roots grow inside pipes, they can expand and multiply, gradually filling the pipe's interior. This intrusion can obstruct the flow of water and waste, leading to partial or complete blockages. This can result in slow drainage, backups, and sewage spills in extreme cases.
Pipe Damage: Tree roots can exert substantial pressure on the walls of pipes as they grow, causing the pipes to crack, break, or collapse. This damage can occur in various ways, including root penetration through existing cracks, the expansion of roots in joints, or the sheer force exerted by growing roots against the pipe walls.
Leakage: Roots can cause leaks by damaging the pipe itself or by forcing their way through joints and connections, creating openings for water and sewage to escape into the surrounding soil. This not only leads to water loss but also can attract more roots as they sense the moisture.
Chemical Changes: Tree roots can release chemicals that accelerate the deterioration of pipe materials. For instance, the roots' presence can cause the pipe's interior to corrode more quickly, weakening the structure and making it more susceptible to damage.

Halloween Decorations Catch Fire in La Palma Home?
10/24/2023 (Permalink)
We are leaders in fire damage restoration services in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team has been restoring fire damage in La Palma for many years. This month is Residential Fire Awareness Month, and we want everyone fire-safe this Halloween. Here are some of the reasons to be extra vigilant:
Candles and Decorations: Many Halloween decorations involve candles, jack-o'-lanterns, and other flammable materials. These decorations can easily catch fire if placed near curtains, paper decorations, or other combustible items.
Costume Fabrics: Halloween costumes often incorporate synthetic fabrics, which can be highly flammable. Loose hanging or flowing costumes near open flames or candles can quickly ignite.
Flammable Props: Halloween parties might feature props such as fake cobwebs, hay, and straw. These materials can easily catch fire and spread flames if they come into contact with heat sources.
Outdoor Bonfires and Fire Pits: Bonfires and fire pits are popular during Halloween parties, especially in colder regions. Improperly managed fires, sparks, or flying embers can lead to unintentional fires.
Electrical Overload: Elaborate Halloween decorations that require numerous electrical connections can lead to overloaded circuits and electrical fires if not properly managed.

Water Hammer Cause of Broken Pipes in La Palma Home?
10/3/2023 (Permalink)
We respond to water damage emergencies 24 hours a day in Orange County.
Our local Buena Park team is a leader in water damage restoration services in La Palma. Water hammers, also known as hydraulic shocks or water hammering, are a common cause of broken pipes and can lead to various plumbing issues, including leaks and pipe damage.
If water hammering occurs frequently or with great intensity, it can exert significant stress on the pipe and its connections. Over time, this repeated stress can weaken pipes and joints, potentially leading to leaks or even pipe ruptures. Additionally, it can cause damage to fixtures, appliances, and nearby structures. If you notice frequent or severe water hammering, it's a good idea to consult with a plumber who can assess your system and recommend appropriate solutions.
To prevent water hammers and the associated risks, various solutions can be implemented, including:
Water Hammer Arrestors: These are devices installed in plumbing systems to absorb shock waves, preventing them from causing damage.
Pressure Regulators: Adjusting water pressure at the main water supply can help reduce the intensity of the water hammer.
Slow-Closing Valves: Installing slow-closing valves or faucets can minimize the sudden interruption of water flow, reducing the likelihood of water hammer.
Water Softeners: Water softeners can help by reducing the force of water flow, making it less likely to cause a water hammer.

What To Do Until Help Arrives (Fire & Smoke Damage)
6/11/2021 (Permalink)
This home sustained fire and smoke damage due to a lit candle that fell onto the floor.
In the event of a fire or smoke loss in your home, here are some tips you can follow to minimize damage:
- Limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery and carpet.
- Keep hands clean. Soot on hands can further soil upholstery, walls, and woodwork.
- Place dry, colorfast towels or old linens on rugs, upholstery, and carpet traffic areas.
- If electricity is off, empty freezer and refrigerator completely and prop doors open to help prevent odor.
- Wipe soot from chrome on kitchen and bathroom faucets, trim, and appliances, then protect these surfaces with a light coating of lubricant.
- If heat is off during winter, pour RV antifreeze in sinks, toilet bowls, holding tanks, and tubs to avoid freezing pipes and fixtures.
- Wash both sides of leaves on houseplants.
- Change HVAC filter, but leave the system off until a trained professional can check the system.
- Tape double layers of cheesecloth over air registers to stop particles of soot from getting in or out of the HVAC system.

If You See Signs of Mold, Call Us Today – (714) 523-9119
Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:
- Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
- Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
- Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
- Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
- Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
- Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
- If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Does Your Buena Park Home Have A Mold Problem?
7/16/2018 (Permalink)
Mold spores found in a hall closet of a home as a result of water damage.

Water Damage at Shoe Store
7/2/2018 (Permalink)
Shoe store sustains water damage from main water line located outside of the building.
This commercial building is a shoe store that sustained water damage due to a main water line located outside of the building that burst and flooded the inside of the building.
To minimize damages, SERVPRO of Buena Park arrived quickly to the loss site and began services almost immediately. Due to the amount of water, our technicians had to extract water from the floors using a water extractor. Even though the technicians were able to remove a lot of the standing water, the vinyl tiles had already begun to delaminate from the floor. Due to this, this type of flooring needed to be removed to dry the floor beneath. The owners of this shoe store were relieved we were able to salvage most of their inventory.

Each fire is different, contact SERVPRO of Buena Park for proper cleanup.
Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allow us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.
Smoke and soot facts:
- Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
- Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
- The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.
Different Types of Smoke
There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Buena Park will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:
Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber
- Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.
Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood
- Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.
Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire
- Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

What to do Until Help Arrives (Fire & Smoke Damage)
7/2/2018 (Permalink)
Final and easiest Tip:
Call SERVPRO of Buena Park at (714) 523-9119 to take care of the rest!
What NOT to do (Fire & Smoke Damage)
7/2/2018 (Permalink)
This home sustained fire damage due to an electrical explosion in the attic.
In our previous post, we provide suggestions on what to do until SERVPRO of Buena Park can arrive to assess fire and smoke damage. Now we would like to offer some tips on what NOT TO DO in the unfortunate event of a fire.
DON'T:
- Attempt to wash any walls or painted surfaces without first contacting SERVPRO of Buena Park.
- Attempt to shampoo carpet or upholstered furniture without first consulting SERVPRO of Buena Park.
- Attempt to clean any electrical appliances (TV sets, radios, etc.) that may have been close to fire, heat, or water without first consulting an authorized repair service.
- Consume any food or beverages that may have been stored close to fire, heat, or water. (They may be contaminated.)
- Turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet. Wiring may be wet or damaged and cause electrical shock, and air movement may create secondary damage.
- Send garments to the dry cleaner. Improper cleaning may set in smoke odor.

Water Damage While Homeowners Were Out of Town
5/16/2018 (Permalink)
What can happen if water damage goes untreated?... Mold growth...
Homeowners were out of town when this water damage occurred. Unfortunately, due to nobody being in the home, the water damage went untreated for six days. During this time, water saturated the walls, flooring, and cabinets throughout the downstairs area of the home. SERVPRO of Buena Park was called to assess the water damage. Upon arrival, SERVPRO of Buena Park crew noticed there was about 2-3 inches of standing water and microbial growth on the walls. The first thing the crew did was moving contents and furniture to an unaffected area of the home in attempts to salvage them. The next step was to extract the water using a truck mount extractor. Thirdly, the homeowners' items were packed and moved into another area of the home so that cabinets and furniture could be removed. Fourth step was the removal of cabinets, drywall, and floors as they were heavily affected by the water damage. (Notice the microbial growth on the walls) The final step was mold remediation. With the help of a hygienist, the home mold spores in the home were reduced to where it is now safe to live in the home. Just a friendly reminder to have a family member, friend and or neighbor keep an eye on your home when you are out of town just in case this happens in your home!

Water Damage at Shoe Store
6/19/2017 (Permalink)
Shoe store sustains water damage from main water line located outside of the building.
This commercial building is a shoe store that sustained water damage due to a main water line located outside of the building that burst and flooded the inside of the building.
In order to minimize damages, SERVPRO of Buena Park arrived quickly to the loss site and began services almost immediately. Due to the amount of water, our technicians had to extract water from the floors using a water extractor. Even though the technicians were able to remove a lot of the standing water, the vinyl tiles had already begun to delaminate from the floor. Due to this, this type of flooring needed to be removed in order to dry the floor beneath. The owners of this shoe store were relieved we were able to salvage the majority of their inventory.

What To Do Until Help Arrives (Fire & Smoke Damage)
6/12/2017 (Permalink)
This home sustained fire and smoke damage due to a lit candle that fell onto the floor.
In the event of a fire or smoke loss in your home, here are some tips you can follow to minimize damage:
1. Limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery and carpet.
2. Keep hands clean. Soot on hands can further soil upholstery, walls, and woodwork.
3. Place dry, colorfast towels or old linens on rugs, upholstery, and carpet traffic areas.
4. If electricity is off, empty freezer and refrigerator completely and prop doors open to help prevent odor.
5. Wipe soot from chrome on kitchen and bathroom faucets, trim, and appliances, then protect these surfaces with a light coating of lubricant.
6. If heat is off during winter, pour RV antifreeze in sinks, toilet bowls, holding tanks, and tubs to avoid freezing pipes and fixtures.
7. Wash both sides of leaves on houseplants.
8. Change HVAC filter, but leave the system off until a trained professional can check the system.
9. Tape double layers of cheesecloth over air registers to stop particles of soot from getting in or out of the HVAC system.
Final and easiest Tip:
Call SERVPRO of Buena Park at (714) 523-9119 to take care of the rest!
What NOT to Do (Fire & Smoke Damage)
6/12/2017 (Permalink)
This home sustained fire damage due to an electrical explosion in the attic.
In our previous post, we provide suggestions on what to do until SERVPRO of Buena Park can arrive to assess fire and smoke damage. Now we would like to offer some tips on what NOT TO DO in the unfortunate event of a fire.
DON'T:
1. Attempt to wash any walls or painted surfaces without first contacting SERVPRO of Buena Park.
2. Attempt to shampoo carpet or upholstered furniture without first consulting SERVPRO of Buena Park.
3. Attempt to clean any electrical appliances (TV sets, radios, etc.) that may have been close to fire, heat, or water without first consulting an authorized repair service.
4. Consume any food or beverages that may have been stored close to fire, heat, or water. (They may be contaminated.)
5. Turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet. Wiring may be wet or damaged and cause electrical shock, and air movement may create secondary damage.
6. Send garments to the dry cleaner. Improper cleaning may set in smoke odor.

Standing Water in Home Causes Mold Growth
4/26/2017 (Permalink)

Does Your Buena Park Home Have A Mold Problem?
5/9/2016 (Permalink)
If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

CORONA Relay for Life
5/8/2013 (Permalink)
SERVPRO's team at The Relay for Life
Last year, in response to a Cancer diagnosis, Servpro of Corona and Mike Britton teamed up to create team SERVPRO and joined the American Cancer Society in their Relay for Life Event. Team SERVPRO raised a little under $3,000.00 within the few months the team was formed. Our team walked all day and night in support of our friends, family, and our team member Mike Britton. Although we did not reach our goal last year, each lap we walked represented a positive thought, energy, or prayer -if you will- to be sent Mike’s way: this in itself was well worth it.
This year, On Saturday, May 18th at Santana Park in Corona, Ca. team SERVPRO (along side of Mike B.) will be walking this event again. This year; however, we have another goal. Our goal is for team Servpro to really shine and live up to the name of Super Heroes. We are asking our friends to help us raise money for the Cancer Society.
